Search Toxins

Type a term and search, or choose a field to build a more specific query across names, activity, taxonomy, literature, and more.

How to use Search

Leave Search Field on All fields to type a term across names, synonyms, accessions, taxonomy, toxin group, activity, PTMs, and molecular targets. Suggestions are grouped by field after three characters. Description and literature stay on their own fields. Or choose a field from the grouped list (Toxin Metadata, Biological Activity, Protein Information, Source Species Taxonomy, Literature Information, Mature Toxin Mass). List fields such as toxin group, species, and activity still use a dropdown when you select that field.

After you pick a specific field, the form shows the operators and inputs for that field:

  • Text fields (name, synonym, description, accession, literature, historic taxonomy, molecular target): use like, not like, is, or is not, and type your term. Matching suggestions appear as you type where autocomplete is available.
  • List fields (toxin group, biological activity, species, family, common name, PTMs): pick a value from the dropdown with is or is not.
  • Phyletic Specificity is target-organism taxonomy: pick a species from the list, or use the tree icon to search a whole rank (for example Eukaryota > Insecta). Add a second Phyletic Specificity clause with + to require two clades (insects and mammals).
  • Molecular target: use the tree icon to browse the target hierarchy, or type with autocomplete.
  • Numeric fields (masses, dosages, IC50/ED50/Kd, counts, dates, discovery year): use =, <, <=, >, or >= with one or two values to set a range. Concentration fields also include a unit selector.

Add another clause with the yellow + on the first row after you choose a specific search field (it is hidden on All fields). Extra rows start with and / or / but not and a − to remove that clause.

Click Search to run the query. Results appear in a paginated table; toxin names link to toxin cards in a new tab.

After a search, use Download PDF or Download CSV below the results to export the current result set (FAIR-compliant CSV). Optionally tick IC50, molecular target, ED50, or Kd columns to include in the export.
